Manila, Philippines – In commemoration of the 112th
Philippine Independence Day, there were simultaneous flag-raising and wreath-laying rite in different parts of the country. Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona and Cavite Governor Ayong Maliksi led the ceremonies and waved the Philippine flag at the Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, Cavite, where the Philippine flag was formally unfurled during the proclamation of independence on June 12, 1898.

This year's commemoration of the Philippine Independence Day is also historical since the celebration coincides with the transition period of the Philippine government.
US President Barack Obama sent his greetings to Filipinos saying, “On behalf of the American people, I send my best wishes to all those who celebrate the 112th Anniversary of Philippine Independence Day – here in America, in the Philippines, and around the world”.
